June 20 is West Virginia Day! West Virginia gets a bad rep in the media. However, we love our state. There are great things happening here. We want to share just a few things we love.

The Seasons

No matter what your favorite season is, West Virginia has it. We have beautiful hot summer days, gorgeous fall colors, snowy winters, and blooming spring flowers. Not everyone will agree on where to see the best fall colors, but you can’t go wrong with somewhere like Cooper’s Rock State Park or Blackwater Falls State Park. Head back to Cooper’s Rock in winter for gorgeous snow views with snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. Enjoy the many ramp festivals come spring in places like Elkins or Buckhannon. Cool off in summer at Cheat Lake where you can splash around, soak in some rays, or enjoy the trails. Whatever you enjoy each season, West Virginia is the place to be.

The Parks

Whether you want to hear some music or satisfy your taste for adventure, West Virginia is for you. Our local Palatine Park is not only a great place to take the kids, but also a thriving music scene in the summer. Whether you want to listen to some soul, bluegrass, hits from the past, or more, Palatine Park has a show for you every summer. Who can beat free admission to hear amazing live music? Don’t forget the amazing food trucks as well.

We also have amazing State Parks. Valley Falls State Park is local and pictured above. You can enjoy the cascading falls along the Tygart Valley River. Take in the scenery and enjoy a gorgeous hike. You can usually find couples, families, and graduates getting their photos taken with the idyllic backdrop perfect to get that great shot. This is just one of many amazing State Parks to enjoy here.

The Places

Whether you are looking for a relaxing day or some fun nightlife, West Virginia is for you. Locally, we have The Rambling Root, where you can find a variety of brews with a unique fun atmosphere and amazing staff. Morgantown has a variety of bars and taverns to try. Or you can head down to Charlestown, enjoy downtown and take in the history as well. Nightlife and drinks not for you? Enjoy any of the cozy tea shops in Morgantown like Antiquitea House, antique stores in Fairmont such as Arts and Antiques Marketplace, amazing book stores like Taylor Books in downtown Charleston, or great coffee in Elkins at places like TipTop. There is something to enjoy for everyone.

The People

Whether you’re a native or a transplant, you can’t help but love the people of West Virginia. Community is important here. One can find a helping hand. There are so many locals working to make West Virginia a better place for themselves, their families, and others. Who can forget the famous people who have also come from our great state? Country star Brad Paisley, actor Steve Harvey, former NFL star Randy Moss, mathematician Katherine Johnson, and more!
